Coastal Confidence: Expanding Abel’s Modeling Portfolio in Oceanside
Building a modeling portfolio is all about showcasing versatility, personality, and natural confidence. I recently had the chance to team up with Abel again for a brand-new portrait session, and we brought some serious coastal energy to Michigan Ave and the iconic Oceanside Pier.
In partnership with Blissful Seeds, this session was all about capturing Abel’s unique vibe in a relaxed, outdoor setting. At Photography Matters, I specialize in sensory-friendly, inclusive photography, which means ditching the stiff indoor studios and letting my clients thrive in natural light.
From Coding Arcade Games to the Runway
When Abel isn’t in front of the camera, he is actually a talented coder who builds arcade games and absolutely loves video games! It is always amazing to see someone with such a brilliant, tech-focused mind step out onto the beach and completely own a fashion photoshoot. We wanted to capture that multi-dimensional personality—smart, creative, and effortlessly cool.
Versatile Styles by the Pier
For a modeling portfolio to stand out, it needs range. Abel brought an amazing selection of casual, light wear that popped perfectly against the bright Oceanside, CA backdrop.
The Pier Walk: We started with some classic, relaxed shots on the wooden planks of the Oceanside Pier, utilizing a sharp blue and white patterned button-down and sunglasses for a timeless Southern California look.
Bold Blocks and Coastal White: Transitioning to the concrete walkways, Abel rocked a bold, color-blocked "HU" shirt with crisp white shorts, offering a clean, modern editorial style.
Beachside Floral: Walking along the shoreline beneath the dramatic wooden pilings of the pier, a dark blue floral shirt added a fantastic tropical element to his portfolio.
Playful Energy: We ended the session right by the water with a matching blue patterned set, capturing a fun, spontaneous moment of Abel balancing on one leg in the sand. It’s these candid moments that truly show a model's approachability and personality!
