Trading the Desert for the Ocean: A Quick & Fun Carlsbad Family Beach Session
Let’s be completely honest for a second—if you have teenagers, you know that family photo day isn't always at the top of their wish list. When this sweet family reached out about booking a session during their vacation from Tucson, Arizona, Mom kept it very real with me: "I have a 12 and 16-year-old boy, and they are only going to last about 30 minutes!"

Escaping the Arizona Heat
This family was visiting North County San Diego to escape the intense Arizona summer, so the cool, breezy Carlsbad coastline was the perfect backdrop. We kept the wardrobe casual and comfortable with breezy blues, whites, and bare feet in the sand.
Because we were working with a "30-minute teenager window," we kept moving. No stiff, awkward holding-a-pose-forever moments! I just had the boys walk down the shoreline together. Capturing a 12 and 16-year-old just hanging out and laughing naturally is always a win, and the California natural light did the rest.
A Moment for Mom and Dad
When you do family portraits, it's so important to grab a few shots of just the parents! While the boys took a breather, Mom and Dad got to take a quiet, romantic stroll along the water's edge. The low tide created this incredible, glass-like reflection on the wet sand that made their couples portraits look absolutely magical.

We wrapped up the session with a classic, full-family portrait with the crashing waves right behind them—and yes, we got it all done before anyone lost their patience!
