There is a special kind of magic in capturing a family's very first memories in a new city. Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a wonderful Navy family who just moved to San Diego! To celebrate their new coastal lifestyle, they wanted to create a "move-in memory" with a relaxed outdoor family photography session right here on Carlsbad Beach.
Relaxing Into the Rhythm of the Waves
When you book a family photoshoot, it’s completely normal for it to take a few minutes to warm up to the camera! The father was a little bit stiff at the very beginning of our session, but the infectious, joyful energy of his beautiful wife and their three amazing kids quickly worked its magic.
Within minutes, the formal poses melted away, and he completely leaned into the fun. There is nothing better than watching a family let their guard down and simply enjoy being together!
Splashes, Smiles, and SoCal Sunshine
We kept the session incredibly organic and playful. The kids had an absolute blast running along the shoreline, splashing in the gentle waves, and burying themselves in the soft sand. We captured everything from:

Relaxed Portraits: Beautiful, candid moments of the parents and children simply enjoying the gorgeous Carlsbad coastline.
The jewel-toned outfits they chose—flowing teal, soft pinks, and patterned blues—looked absolutely stunning against the natural backdrop of the beach and the green ice plant on the dunes.
